In this lecture, Prof Mark Learmonth will tell stories about his own approaches to qualitative research over the course of his career. The speaker has always been interested in storytelling and have based his research on three principal sources: (i) stories people have told during research interviews; (ii) stories about organizations in the wider culture – such as in movies (iii) stories experienced by the speaker himself. The speaker will elaborate both upon what these approaches have been, and upon the trials and tribulations involved in publication.
Mark Learmonth is Professor of Organization Studies at Durham University, UK, having previously worked at the Universities of Nottingham and York. Before academia, he was a health care administrator in the UK’s National Health Service. Mark has conducted extensive qualitative research, all of which has been concerned, broadly speaking, with investigating the personal consequences of work. He has also written theoretically about topics including evidence-based management and leadership. He is currently working on a Corpus Linguistics project.
